Critter and Scenery from the lot

I had to move a rather large rock to get to some materials and look who was hiding under it all crouched down and cozy! He never moved the entire time I was hauling heavy braces that I kept banging on the rocks. Check out his eye! Cool. Tonight while Joe and I were working at the lot and with the rain we had this morning the frogs were making all kinds of noise again. By the sound of them...we have many of them out there. They also burrow into the dirt walls surrounding the house, Joe kept seeing them trying to huddle as far back into their hiding spots as they could as he worked.
As I was driving to the lot last week and turned on our street the shower of leaves that has been raining down the last several days had left a carpet of them covering the road...I had to just stop and look at them. In a matter of a week nearly all the leaves are down.
The owners are clearing some of their lots across the street from ours and others going up the ridge to look more appealing and enticing - it does the trick! It's so beautiful.

Sunday drive home

On our way home from speaking in the Danville Branch we stopped at a tiny park to take a picture. Wasn't the most picturesque place available, just the most convenient without driving anymore miles than we already had this morning. A beautiful day. And this was the little town as we were leaving, isn't it just beautiful. The entire drive was breathtaking.

We have a porch

Well, the trucks are gone the walls are full and the porch is being worked. Much to do to secure the walls for the pour as you can see in this one small section....worth it though when there are NO blowouts. Great job!!

Time now to power wash the walls and rid them of the cement over spray and spills. Actually it was quite clean considering the amount of time and effort it takes to maneuver the pump hose.
Look any different???? It does to us!!

Another quilt begins

I've started the next quilt for a baby girl...Jenna is that you??? If not a boy one begins next. As soon as we know the gender of our expected arrivals then we'll know for sure which projects to finish first. But for now one is in the works. 39 squares are complete, 12 to go plus a border...you can see it on the pattern....yep, that's right a PATTERN this time! Glad for that.

Finally....the basement walls are being poured

Once again the trucks are lined up out front meaning something is happening at the lot - at 6am the cement trucks began arriving. By 9am 5 trucks had already been on site and emptied their loads. So far so good. The pour has gone almost without a hitch. Joe and Bo have worked countless hours preparing for this day. There have been so many little odd jobs that have to be in place and secure so the cement stays were it is intended to be. They have done an amazing job!
This is the 'storm room' that is solid cement under the front porch. Notice how quickly the trees changed colors from our last post...amazing.

Watching to make sure the cement is in place and filling adequately. I believe they are to be 12' tall upon completion today. If I'm wrong I'll post the correction later. The first pour is the largest pour.

Rag blanket for Jen and Cory

Wanted to make something, 'baby' for Jen and Cory's little one so we put together a rag blanket this week. Everyone needs something 'baby' to set out while we await the new arrival. Done with the first washing - sure makes a mess! Love the colors of these pieces though. Not sure if I'll mail it or hand deliver it when you come for Thanksgiving, humm. I'll let you know.
